Emily Harger is a video producer and photographer based in Berkeley, CA.
Her roots in Appalachian Pennsylvania drive her curiosity for the American identity across rural and urban communities. She travels between the west coast and her home region regularly for stories.
Currently, she is in production for Still Here, a documentary short exploring LGBTQ activism in Central Appalachia. She also teaches video and photo classes at Youth Beat in Oakland, CA. This past year, Emily was one of three filmmaking residents for the inaugural Glassbreaker Films, an all women-identifying film initiative of The Center for Investigative Reporting.
Her work has been published through Glassbreaker Films, The Center for Investigative Reporting, 100 Days in Appalachia, The Bitter Southerner, The Atlantic, Kertis Creative, Bloomberg, Narratively, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, WOUB Public Media, among others.
She has been recognized by College Photographer of the Year and the Hearst Journalism Awards.
